I'll go over each of the key features in detail, but if you want a quick summary first, here's a full comparison chart.

1. Do both have inbuilt templates?

GetResponse:

GetResponse template library is packed with options, so you can start creating your marketing campaigns in minutes.

GetResponse-email-templates
GetResponse Email Templates

The template library includes email templates, landing page templates, website templates, social ad templates, and even full funnel templates, all with the same branding.

One of the funnel templates inside GetResponse

It should be emphasized that a wide selection of email templates does not mean compromising on quality. We ensure that each template is meticulously crafted and rigorously tested for deliverability. Moreover, our templates are responsive and can adapt seamlessly to different devices.

Whether you choose a template to send out a welcome email or promote a webinar, each template works the same whether your customer receives it on their computer or on their mobile phone.

In addition, you can easily customize them to your liking with GetResponse's drag-and-drop email creator. it allows you to change text, images, or call-to-action buttons without coding skills.

Our email templates are thoughtfully categorized to help you find what you need quickly. For instance, under the e-commerce section, you'll find templates designed for product sales. Similarly, if you intend to update your customers about an upcoming event, we have templates tailored to suit that purpose.

Constant Contact

Constant Contact also has a large template library — with over 400 email templates.

Constant-Contact-Email-Templates

Like GetResponse, it also has a drag-and-drop editor, so you can easily customize your email templates with your images and branding.

The editor also includes features like Google Fonts and lets you import PDFs into emails. It also has a template builder, so you can import your logo, color scheme, and social media links into the template to save time when sending an email.

2. What about autoresponders?

GetResponse:

With GetResponse Email Autoresponders, you can welcome new subscribers, run email courses, and grow your leads until they become paying customers.

With GetResponse, you don't have to spend hours sending individual emails to your list. Our automated system takes care of it for you.

Plus, our calendar feature provides a comprehensive overview of your autoresponders, helping you avoid duplicate campaigns.

By providing a clearer picture of your customer journey, this feature enables you to select the optimal mailing frequency for your audience.

Constant Contact:

Unlike GetResponse, Constant Contact doesn't offer a dedicated autoresponder feature. However, you can leverage their email automation capabilities to establish drip campaigns.

As we noted above, it can automatically trigger emails to new subscribers, customers who open a specific message or click on your link, and contacts who have a birthday or anniversary.

constant-contact-automation-1

Like GetResponse, you can customize these autoresponders, so they're sent immediately or delayed for a while after someone subscribes to your list.

Once you've created an autoresponder series, you can add as many follow-up emails as you want.

3. Do they both have A/B testing features?

GetResponse:

With GetResponse, you have the ability to conduct A/B testing for fundamental aspects of your marketing campaign.

When it comes to emails, you can perform a simple A/B test on the subject line using the A/B testing tool or a more complex analysis using the separation in the Marketing Automation Path Builder.

When it comes to landing pages, you can experiment with just about anything that pops into your head. It only takes one click to create a second variation of your page to which half of your traffic will be automatically directed.

Constant contact:

Constant Contact also offers A/B testing, but it's limited.

You can only test subject lines at this time. When creating an email campaign, you can enable the A/B testing feature and then add two different subject lines to see which works best:

An-example-of-A/B-headline-testing
An example of A/B headline testing using Constant Contact

Also, Constant Contact only lets you test two subject lines at a time, unlike GetResponse which lets you test up to 5 different subject lines.

Constant Contact also asks you to manually add your winning subject line to send to your list once you choose it, but GetResponse automatically sends it to your list.

4. Conversion Funnels, Anyone?

GetResponse:

Imagine that you want to sell an ebook or a webinar.

Until recently, you had to put together a tech stack of different products to host, promote, distribute, track, and ultimately sell your products.

To solve this problem, they have created a conversion funnel feature in GetResponse so you can now set up and track all of your efforts under one roof.

This feature allows you to create a custom funnel so you can visualize each stage of your marketing campaign:

Conversion-Funnel
We’ve also created templates you can use for each step of the funnel, like:
  • Landing Pages
  • Stores
  • Facebook Ads
  • Instagram Ads
  • Social Ads creator
  • Sales pages
  • Payment processors
  • Follow-up/abandoned cart emails
If you are building a new list, your conversion funnel might look like this:

All you have to do is add the pre-made templates at each step and then launch your campaign. The tool will then track the success of each part of the funnel. And if, for example, people are disengaging from your emails, you can change that part of your funnel.

Constant Contact

Constant Contact does not currently offer a funnel.

5. Which one lets you create landing pages?

GetResponse:

For small businesses and freelancers seeking a wide variety of options while creating landing pages, GetResponse is an excellent choice, as it offers over 180 different templates to select from.

landing-page-templates
GetResponse Landing Page Templates

GetResponse's landing page builder features a user-friendly drag-and-drop editor, which enables you to customize any template by seamlessly incorporating your logo, text, and images into the design - no coding expertise is required.

GetResponse Landing Pages Builder

However, the Landing Page Builder allows you to further customize landing pages so that you can:

  • structure your landing pages using sections.
  • add content blocks for images, video, text, and buttons.
  • add static and pop-up forms.
  • add webinar registration forms.
  • add a sense of urgency with countdown timers.
  • collect payments thanks to PayPal integration.
  • add social sharing icons.
  • add custom-code elements using HTML, CSS, or Javascript.
  • preview your landing page to see what it looks like on a desktop or a mobile device.

To top it off, it doesn't matter what device your customers are viewing the landing pages on, as they are designed to be responsive whether viewed on desktop or mobile.

Constant Contact

Constant Contact also has landing page capabilities.

It's now possible to construct simple yet compelling call-to-action landing pages, such as the one demonstrated below:

constant-contact-landing-page-marketing-agency-guide

Similar to GetResponse, Constant Contact has also integrated with various tools such as Facebook, Eventbrite, WordPress, Salesforce, and Shopify. This integration empowers you to build shoppable landing pages.

In addition to the simple landing page builder, Constant Contact has a more robust website builder, which allows you to set up multi-page websites and simple online stores.

6. Can I add a chat to my landing page?

GetResponse

GetResponse introduced live chats recently.

You can use this feature to communicate directly with your audience, e.g. you can collect product feedback right on the product page or pay close attention to your contacts and follow up with targeted emails.

live-chats-feature

It's a perfect solution if you want to build a stronger relationship with your audience and offer them an easier way to contact you.

Constant Contact

Constant Contact doesn’t offer a live chat feature right now.

7. What does each tool’s marketing automation look like?

GetResponse:

We believe that any successful marketing campaign goes beyond email, because you also need landing pages, workflows, autoresponders, web push notifications, and all sorts of other marketing channels to nurture. your customers and improve sales (or any other type of conversions).

We have made a concerted effort to ensure that our marketing automation software is accessible to everyone while being straightforward to use.

marketing-automation-workflow

Using an intuitive drag-and-drop automation workflow builder, you can set up automations based on various triggers such as:

  • Contact added
  • Contact opened or clicked a link
  • Contact made a purchase
  • Contact abandoned a cart
  • Contact visited a particular URL
  • Contacted was moved or copied from another list

Based on these triggers, you can perform all kinds of actions, e.g. send an email, assign a label, add a score and refine your recipients using different types of filters.

Suppose you want to welcome new subscribers who signed up to your list through a web form. You can either use one of our pre-designed templates or create your own workflow using the workflow builder:

wait-workflow-gif

And if you want to add to that automation, just drag and drop items into the workflow and attach them. Easy!

Constant contact:

If you choose Constant Contact's Email Plus plan, you will have access to their Email Automation solution.

marketing-automation

This tool enables you to create rudimentary automations that are triggered by customers' actions, such as:

  • Contact added
  • Contact opened an email or click a link
  • Contact has birthday or some kind of anniversary

However, Constant Contact automation sequences do not go beyond these basic triggers.

So if you want to configure more advanced scenarios, e.g. identify subscribers who click on a product link or add them to a webinar invite if they visit a certain page on your website, you won't be able to do that.

8. What about webinars?

GetResponse:

In the past, launching webinars required you to add an additional tool to your marketing stack. Not anymore.

GetResponse's webinar software lets you create interactive webinars, invite subscribers to attend, and automatically follow up right from the dashboard.

They have created a set of webinar templates so you can easily launch a professional-looking webinar. You can also add features like images, registration forms, and even interactive whiteboards before you start your webinar.

webinar-funnels-templates
GetResponse Webinar Funnel Templates

Every time you launch a webinar, you’ll also have access features like:

  • Interactive whiteboards
  • Screen sharing/interactive chat room
  • Recording (so you can remarket the webinar once it’s over)
  • Q&A session
  • Payment gateways
  • Moderated chat
  • Multiple hosts

And since you'll already be using GetResponse for your other marketing efforts like emails and landing pages, webinar leads will automatically be added to these lists and, if desired, added to existing marketing campaigns.

The full suite of tools lets you develop new leads, ask attendees questions, and even sell products and courses right from your webinars.

Constant Contact

Constant Contact doesn't provide any dedicated webinar tools in its marketing suite.

9. What are the prices?

GetResponse:

GetResponse's pricing consists of five tiers: Free, Basic, Plus, Professional, and Max.

getresponse-pricing-plan
GetResponse Pricing Plan

The cost you'll incur is dependent on the size of your email list and the features you wish to access.

The free plan is perfect for anyone just starting out with up to 500 contacts on their list. The basic plan costs $15/month/user and gives you access to our email marketing suite, autoresponders, landing pages, prospecting funnels, and Facebook ads.

To gain access to our automation builder and webinar tools, upgrading to the Plus plan is necessary, which costs $49/month/3 users.

It's prudent to evaluate the software before making a purchase, and our free account provides a 30-day trial of all premium features without requiring credit card information.

If you are satisfied with the product, you will be rewarded with a discount. Buy a one-year package and you'll get an 18% discount. And if you sign up for a two-year plan, you'll get a 30% discount.

On top of that, we also offer a special discount of up to 50% for non-profit organizations.

Example: Say you have a list of up to 10,000 subscribers and you want access to Marketing Automation, but you don't want to use web push notifications or other advanced features. Then your best bet is to go for the Plus plan where your monthly bill will be $95 (before any discounts).

Constant Contact:

Constant Contact has two pricing tiers: Email and Email Plus.

constant-contact-pricing

The cheapest tier, Email, starts at $20/month for up to 500 contacts and includes unlimited email. Email Plus starts at $45/month and gives you access to more tools like automated welcome series, customizable pop-up forms, and advanced e-commerce marketing.

Although Constant Contact's free trial is generous (60 days), it does require you to provide your credit card details. Plus, their plan automatically renews every month until you cancel your subscription.

It also offers a 15% discount if you purchase an annual plan in advance.

Example: Say you have a list of up to 10,000 subscribers and you want access to email automation. Then your best bet is to go for the Email Plus plan, which will add up to $125 per month (before any discounts). It's $30 pricier than what you would spend on GetResponse, and it doesn't provide access to features such as webinars or sales funnels.

10. Which one lets you do segmentation?

GetResponse

With GetResponse's segmentation tools, it's effortless to categorize and label users based on their actions.

Once a contact lands on your list through a landing page or targeted ad campaign, GetResponse can then segment them based on their behavior, how they signed up, or even which links they click.

Our tool also goes beyond behavioral tracking and measures each contact's engagement using lead scoring, which measures contacts on a 5-score scale:

  • Not engaged (when somebody is not interested in the content you send them at all)
  • At-risk
  • Neutral
  • Engaged
  • Highly engaged (where a person enjoys the content you provide, actively opens emails, and clicks on links.)

This way, if you want to send a marketing campaign to your most engaged subscribers, you can. Each contact on your list will have their engagement score next to them:

example-of-contact-segmentation
An example of contacts with varying engagement scores

constant contact

Once subscribers are on your list, Constant Contact also permits you to allocate tags and segment them.

Like GetResponse, you can segment subscribers based on their geographic location and activity. But if you want to add more details to subscribers, Constant Contact doesn't let you easily edit a contact; you'll need to upload each list and then manually update each field for each contact, which can be time-consuming.

Constant Contact also doesn't score subscribers, so you won't know which ones are more engaged than others.

11. What’s customer support like with these two vendors?

GetResponse

We know that issues arise outside of normal business hours, which is why we have our customer service available 24/7.

So if our customers have a problem or question, they get live chat, email or phone support to talk to our experts depending on their plan.

We also want to eliminate language barriers between our experts and our customers, which is why all of our customer support channels offer help in 8 different languages.

Account Managers are also available for Enterprise customers to help with campaign onboarding, setup and optimization.

Constant Contact

Constant Contact has a handy knowledge base with articles that customers can access at any time to help resolve issues.

Unlike GetResponse, Constant Contact customer support is not offered 24/7. Customers can speak to a member of the team by phone between 8:00 a.m. and 10:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, then during reduced hours on weekends.

Constant Contact also offers live chat support Monday through Friday, but is not available on weekends.

12. Which one helps you run Social media and Google ads?

GetResponse

GetResponse now enables you to create and publish attractive Facebook, Instagram, and Google Ads with ease.

We created the Social Ads Creator app so you can advertise your business through professional looking Facebook Ads. The creator lets you use a template or create an ad from scratch, and all you have to do is add your images and branding and publish.

Like our other templates, elements can be easily edited using a drag-and-drop tool:

getresponse-ads-creator

And if your business is less about social media and more about search engine advertising, we've got you covered, too.

We have a tool that allows you to easily create Google Ads. All you need to do is connect your Google Ads account, enter ad content, choose a target audience, and set your desired budget:

Easy!

Constant Contact

Constant Contact has an in-app Facebook and Instagram ad builder to make it easier for businesses to advertise on social media tools.

The functionality of the tool is similar to that of GetResponse's Social Ads Creator app: you can add custom images, add content, and edit the ad's call-to-action button:

facebook-ads-creator

Nonetheless, Constant Contact's tool still demands a significant amount of manual labor.

GetResponse's tool simplifies the process of creating promotional content as all you need to do is upload photos, input names and prices, and it will automatically generate various promotional videos, banners, and branded slideshows.

Constant Contact's tool forces you to manually add every element of an ad, which means campaigns take longer to create and you'll have less material to choose from unless you're creating it yourself.

Constant Contact also lacks built-in analytics tools, which makes it harder to track the success of a social media ad campaign.
