About The Creator of KeySearch

Dan-Pfeffer
Dan Pfeffer

Dan Pfeffer started working in SEO in 2008. He founded the now defunct Full Control SEO forum and several SEO tools and software applications over the past decade. In 2015, he released the first version of Keysearch. He is still the driving force behind new feature updates, the blog, and the future growth of the business.

In the next part of KeySearch review, i will walk you through the features KeySearch has to offer.

KeySearch Features

These are the main features you will get with a KeySearch plan:

  • Keyword research
  • Competitor analysis
  • Explorer (domain overview)
  • Rank tracking and intelligence
  • YouTube research
  • Content assistant

These features are all you need to get started with SEO as a blogger or small business. Let's dive into each of KeySearch's features to see how they work and how you can use them to grow your business.

Keyword research

KeySearch's keyword research tool is refreshingly easy to use. To get started, all you have to do is enter a keyword in the search box. Select the location you want data for and you'll receive a list of up to 700 related keywords.

Each of the keywords in your results is assigned a difficulty score: The higher the score, the harder it will be to rank for that keyword.

The Keyword Difficulty Score is color-coded, so you can see at a glance which words will rank easy and which to avoid. It also gives you PPC and CPC data for each keyword.

Along with providing you with the list of related keywords, you'll see search trends for the last 12 months and an analysis of the search engine results page (SERP).

keyword-research

KeySearch has a database of over a billion keywords, giving you endless opportunities to find profitable, low-competition keyword ideas that you can rank for. You can check up to 200 or 500 keywords every day, depending on the plan you're on.

So that you don't waste all your credits on the first search, the difficulty score for each keyword idea is only revealed after you click on it. This allows you to filter out low volume keywords that you don't want to check before wasting your credits.

How to find long tail keywords

Long tail keywords are an essential part of SEO strategy for bloggers and niche site builders. Not only are these longer, more specific keywords easier to rank for in general, but they can also help you attract the right visitors and buyers to your website. KeySearch makes it easy to find long-tail keywords with its filtering feature.

Once you've set your filters, click "filter" and it will narrow down your results. If you want to go further, you can add additional keywords in the keywords section, to display only the keywords with buyer intent. For example, you can include the word "best" to find people searching for the best cat bowls.

how-to-find-long-tail-keyword

You can now see that the results only show keywords that include the word "best".

People searching for these keywords are clearly looking to buy bowls for their cat. Any results that remain after filtering are low-competition, long-tail keywords that would be easy to rank for a relatively new site.

Once you find your ideal keywords, you can select them and save them to a list. You can create as many keyword lists as you want and save them so they're there for you when you're ready to create content.

KeySearch Explorer

KeySearch-Explorer

The explorer on KeySearch is basically an in-depth web page audit scanner.

You can enter any URL (yours or your competitor's) and you will see domain strength, target keyword score, backlinks and referring domains. It also shows you the top competitors, top referring domains, anchors, and organic keywords the site ranks for.

If it's your own site, the "score to target" number is especially helpful when doing keyword research. This allows you to quickly filter out any words that will be too difficult for you to categorize.

You can click on each domain to see it in more depth, but this page gives a good "at a glance" overview of a domain.

Competition analysis

KeySearch's competitor analysis tools are perfect for anyone who wants to learn from their competitors' strategy. By reverse engineering a strategy that is already working for someone else in your niche, you can save a lot of time and money.

The main competitor analysis tools included with KeySearch are:

  • Backlink checker
  • Organic keywords
  • Competitor gap
  • URL metrics
  • Page analyzer

Let's start by looking at the backlink checker tool, to see how it works and why you should use it in your SEO strategy.

Backlink Checker

backlink-checker

The backlink checker tool lets you easily see where your competitors are getting their backlinks.

All those sites linked to your competitors could also link to your site. This will help you build your own domain authority, which in turn will help you rank for more keywords. You can use this information to target the most powerful websites for your own guest posts.

This tool shows you the exact page on your competitor's site, along with the anchor text and domain strength. It will also show you which links are tracking links and which links are no-follow links.

Organic Keywords

The Organic Keyword Checker shows you exactly what keywords your competitor is already ranking for.

You can use this tool to see which keywords are bringing them the most traffic so you can target them for your own keyword strategy.

First, the results show you the keywords in order of position in the SERPs. You can easily change this by clicking at the top of any of the columns to see the results in a different order. I always change it to show the keywords that get the most organic traffic first for quick wins.

Competitor Gap

competitor-gap

The Competitor Gap feature lets you quickly and easily find keywords to target that you don't already rank for.

The tool has two search bars.

On the left side, you can add up to three websites whose keywords you want to check. On the right you enter your own website or another website you want to check out. You will then receive a list of keywords that the top three sites are ranking for that the other site is not.

This is a great resource if you offer guest posts on a particular website. You can show them keywords that their competitors are ranking for, but they aren't, and then offer to write a guest post around that keyword.

URL Metrics

URL-Metrics

The URL metrics feature lets you check URL metrics for up to 20 sites at once.

It gives you all the information you need about a URL, including:

  • Page and domain authority
  • Domain strength
  • Total backlinks including dofollow and nofollow links
  • Alexa rank
  • Number of ranking keywords
  • Estimated traffic to the site.

This feature is very useful if you are looking for sites to guest post on, as you can see which sites are the highest authority and have the most traffic.

Page Analyzer

Page-Analyzer

The Page Analyzer feature will give you a full SEO review of any URL you want to check. This will give the webpage a score out of 100.

As with URL metrics, this gives you:

  • Alexa rank
  • Page and domain authority
  • Estimated traffic
  • Total backlinks
  • Dofollow links
  • Domain strength
  • Ranking keywords

Further down the page, you will also be given a list of actions you can take to improve your site's speed and SEO, such as increasing the amount of text on your site or adding alt attributes to your images.

Rank Tracking

KeySearch's rank tracking feature lets you go to a website and see all the keywords the site ranks for in the top 100. You can then select the keywords you want to track, and it will add them to the watchlist.

This will track the ranking of the keyword so you can see your progress in the SERPs, as well as identify any keywords that have dropped in ranking so you can try to move them up.

You can also enter keywords manually and add your location to give you localized results if you prefer.

Opportunity Finder

Opportunity-Finder

The opportunity finder is a great feature that helps you find:

  • sites that are accepting guest posts
  • forums relating to your niche
  • other blogs and influencers in your niche

It's super easy to use - just enter your niche in the search bar. The Opportunity Finder will give you a list of blogs in your niche that are looking for guest posts.

You can easily change the order of the list to show sites based on their DA, Alexa Rank, Traffic, or any other option important to you. The link will take you directly to the “write for us” page, saving you hours of manual research.

YouTube Keyword research

This tool is great for anyone who wants to up their YouTube game.

The YouTube SEO Keyword Research Tool lets you find keywords for YouTube quickly and easily.

It provides you with:

  • YouTube Competition Research
  • Keyword List Building
  • YouTube Bulk Keyword Checker
  • YouTube Keyword Suggestions
  • White-label Reporting

It also lets you filter your keywords, view Google search volume, and also create your own keyword lists.

The YouTube competition analysis feature will show you the top 10 ranking videos along with their stats and difficulty scores. This way you can easily see how difficult the keyword will be to rank on YouTube.

SEO Crash Course

Keysearch-SEO-Crash-Course

Along with providing a suite of SEO tools, KeySearch also offers a completely free SEO crash course.

It is full of helpful SEO tips and tricks. You don't need to register or have an account, it's completely free for everyone.

The course is suitable for beginners, as well as seasoned SEOs and marketers who want to ensure they are up to date with the latest SEO practices.

KeySearch Customer Support

customer-support-keysearch

If you need to contact customer support, you can do so through the support center.

This is accessible from the user area of your account. Just enter your query in the search bar, and you should find an answer to your question in the vast knowledge base.

Alternatively, you can open a support ticket, where a member of the support team will help you. It is not possible to contact support by phone or live chat.

KeySearch Review: Pros and Cons

As with all SEO tools, KeySearch has its own pros and cons. Take a look to see if any of them are a deal breaker for you.

Pros:

  • Intuitive and easy to use
  • Easily find high volume, low-comp. keywords
  • Longtail keyword
  • Very affordable
  • Easy to export data
  • Easily find guest posting opportunities
  • Great competitor analysis features
  • Content assistant helps optimize keyword use

Cons:

  • No phone or live chat support
  • You lose formatting when using the content assistant tool

I've been using KeySearch for my keyword research for over a year now. While there may be occasional discrepancies in the data compared to other keyword research tools, it's never huge.

Keysearch Pricing

One of the best things about Keysearch is its affordability. There are no competitors of the same caliber that even come close to these cheap prices. And these prices are without the 20% discount code!

Keysearch-Pricing

  • Keysearch Starter: Includes all features, 200 daily keyword searches and 50 rank tracker keywords ($17/month or $169/year)
  • Keysearch Pro: Includes all features, 500 daily keyword searches and 150 rank tracker keywords ($34/month or $279/year)

Prices With Keysearch Discount Code

If you want to try Keysearch, be sure to use code "KSDISC" for 20% off. And yes, you can use the same code every year when renewing your plan.

  • Keysearch Starter monthly: $13.60
  • Keysearch Starter annual: $135.20 ($11.26/month)
  • Keysearch Pro monthly: $27.20
  • Keysearch Pro annual: $223.20 ($18.60/month)

Having used Keysearch for over two years now, I can confidently say that you don't need the Pro subscription to use it for your blog. Having 200 daily keyword searches is more than enough. I work as a full-time freelance SEO blogger and have never had issues with the 200 daily search limit.

Keysearch Alternatives

There are tons of keyword and SEO tools out there that can help you find the best keywords. It's possible to do this for free, but the results may not be as accurate or it may be much more difficult to compare keywords and quickly find the ones that work well for your blog.

Some free tools you can use are:

  • Google Keyword Planner
  • Google Trends
  • Wordstream

I used these tools before switching to Keysearch and while they can give you good information, it's really hard to do keyword research properly with them. Especially since they don't give much information about the competition, it takes much longer to find a suitable keyword.

Paid tools are much better and allow you to find keywords much faster. Unfortunately, most industry standard tools come at a steep price:

  • Ahrefs: starting at $99/month
  • SEMrush: starting at $119.99/month

While these tools are top notch and can certainly help you grow your site, it's probably a little out of your budget. Moreover, these tools come with many additional add-ons that you will probably never use for your blog.

This is why Keysearch is the perfect alternative. It's much cheaper and gives you all the tools you need to run a blog.

KeySearch Review Conclusion

Keysearch is perfect for those like me looking for a cheaper Ahrefs alternative.

It comes with dozens of features. While it doesn't offer as many features as Ahrefs, it's not a tool you should overlook.

Whether you're just starting out or running a full marketing agency, this tool will help you achieve great results.

If you're not an agency or a business, tools like Ahrefs don't fit the bill. If you're just starting out, you'll probably never have time to try out most of the features that Ahrefs offers.

For the most part, it will just be a waste of money to use SEO software that you don't even use often.

Keysearch is not just a cheaper version of Ahrefs, it offers everything you will need in your blogging journey. This will help you analyze the competition and find easy-to-rank keywords.

While I wouldn't say Keysearch is a better alternative to Ahrefs, it is, however, an alternative that will help you achieve great results with SEO for your business.
